About PiP PaP
Being a parent is a wonderful blessing – but these days it also more worrisome than ever before. Hardly a day goes by without a new story hits the headlines of faulty products putting children at risk. Unfortunately this is a time of mindless consumerism where multi-national corporations have standardised the products available anywhere you look, produced by the lowest bidder, taking little consideration of all involved whether the environment, the people in the factory or the child using the product. We don’t want our children to use such products and that’s how PiP PaP was born.
When you look on the internet there are many wonderful products which combine great design, functionality which a responsible production and distribution process – the Norwegian Stokke Tripp Trapp high chair for instance. It is a high chair but will transform itself as the child transform from baby to teenager. Once to buy – 18 years of use. That is a product we like and we want to bring to you.
But there are also the social responsibilities to buying product for a child. As the old saying goes “We haven’t inherited the Earth from our parents – but borrowed from our children”. Living in Asia you cannot avoid noticing the abject poverty that the majority of Asians live in – even here in Hong Kong. Fair trade products like Maya Organic from India is but one way to purchase a product which mean that the person who made earned a decent wage, that my child can play with a hand made product, and something I like to give as a gift because I says I care.
Have a look around our many products and come back soon as new products are added every week.
What’s in a name?
I remember sitting on a sofa throwing names around while making and internet search to see what would be the result. We were looking for something that both symbolised a girl and a boy, to be short and memorable and be available as a dot com website. Somehow PiP came to us first and before we knew it PaP arrived. To us PiP is a girl who likes flowers and colourful things whilst PaP is a boy who likes animals and playing ball. What does it mean to you?
The logo
When we were coming up with the logo we wanted to ensure that we had both elements – girl and boy as well as happy colours. So we commissioned local artistic talent Frederik (age 11) to come up with some suggestions and here’s what he did.

We then made a graphic version of his drawing of PaP, flipped it around to create PiP after adding long hair instead of the spikes. Then it looked like this.

Now time had come to focus on colours and fonts for the names but we quite quickly established that orange and green would be the colours of choice. Green because it is fresh, natural and eco-friendly. Orange because it is youthful and vibrant. The font we chose to us symbolises the at once modern design but also playfulness. We hope you like it!

Kind regards
